Hey Mom!

My mother was born in 1932, during the Great Depression.

Between that one, and the one impending, she matured,

(Mom's on the right)

went to college,

married my father,

gave birth to my brother and me, worked, got divorced, retired, welcomed grandchildren into the world,

re-married my father, and still can never remain idle for any significant time period.

My mother loves to travel, and loves her family. She is brilliant, and has a ridiculous attraction to puns. She plays piano and organ for a church, and taught me to read tarot cards and cast astrology charts. She worked in Editorial at TV Guide Magazine, and tortured me about spelling and grammar. She loves animals and attracts crazy people. She will try to help anyone, and still must learn when it is time to step back. She sees beauty in places no one thinks to look, carries a noticeable cache if love wherever she goes (did I mention that she attracts crazy people)? She is a light in the world, and has more angel jewelry than ... an angel. I love her.
She has told me that her guardian angel is exhausted. I say he might want to call for back-up.

Hey, Mom!

Happy Birthday!

Your mom is beautiful!!
And so are you on that picture!
I loved the part about "finding beauty in places no one thinks to look..." Will you share her findings with us?

Warm greetings from West Africa,
Esther

Esther!
Yes she is. Actually, in that picture, I had just been reprimanded for "acting up", and my brother was smirking! I will share. Or, better yet, ask her to!

Great birthday post! I hope your lovely mom reads it.

I feel very attracted to her--her brilliance, her passion in life, her love. Does that make me crazy???

And I love that wry expression on your little girl face. You look rather precocious.

Lori!
I will pass on your good wishes! Mom started a blog called "Sun, Fire, and Rain" (I have no idea what that means). It's on my side bar, but she never has time to update it!

B & S - Thanks for visiting. Old people have old photos!

San!

My Mom read it, but she is posting challenged. Ha! You are not crazy, or no crazier than any of us. My Mom is a Sagittarian, loves people, loves to travel, and is greeted warmly everywhere. She is also a good listener, so people tell her the oddest things - Ha!

That wry expression was due to my being reprimanded right before the camera snapped. I was the type of child who crawled under the pews during the church service, and tried to play tag with strange men in the train station (they ignored me).

oh, this is wonderful. Thanks for sharing your mom with us! I usually don't like to read long posts, but this was exceptional and touching. Your mom is a gem....and you are too! ( parents don't get enough respect in my book)

I am so pleased that you have managed to keep the glow that might have "faded into the light of common day." Thanks for the b'day tribute. Luv u much!

Thank you, Ken Mac! My Mother IS a gem, and worthy of the greatest respect. I have a tendency to rattle on (I do try t curb it, kind of).

Oh, Fe, what a beautiful tribute to your Mom. And she is beautiful. She has the type of face that speaks volumes....goodness, strength and kindness pores out of those eyes and smile.

And look at little Fe! How adorable are you! Now to my right, on your sidebar, I'm looking at Galen. Is that your son? And then, the following picture - is that him grown? Pretty cool dude I must say. Gee, good looks run in the fam, huh?

Beautiful. Well done, sister Fe. You did Mama proud.

Halloo, Rebecca!

Thank you! I adore my Mom. She is the warmest heart I know. I, on the other hand, was not adorable; I had just been reprimanded for acting up. Ha! That is my son on the sidebar, all grown-up (although he just lost his dreads to an unfortunate chain of events. I'll have to post a new pic.
