Big Ol' Moon

"We're sulking like children in the moonlight, aa-ooh" -- Gomez

Moon over Malvern

Celestial bodies, like human bodies, relate. They circle each other. They fly-by, in silence or in flames. . They enter each other’s orbits, commune, and then pass on, leaving a disturbance in their wake. They converge and move apart in a rhythm known only to them and those who study such things. They dance as we do, but blessedly, rarely touch, for those are the catastrophes from which gods are born.

Tonight, the vagaries of the Earth-Moon orbit bring our ancient satellite closer to the Northern Hemisphere (read that: bigger and brighter) than it has been in the past 15 years.

Howl.

Thank you, Lori! Can you see the moon up there? It was cloudy down here most of the day, and I feared I would not get to see it. It's brilliant!

Yep, saw that immense, cratered, magnificent moon on my way home tonight. It was special all right.

Terrific, terrific photos....

Thanks, Rebecca!

At about 4 AM this morning, I woke from a dead sleep to find the setting moon BLARING through my bedroom window. I could not believe how brightly it glowed.

Got me howling Fe, seriously howling. There's this family of coyotes that lives along the creek behind the general pasture. They cut loose about 45 minutes after sundown. They got some amazing songs - wild, joyous, and welded to something deep in my bones. Love your full moon pics.

Halloooooo, Cherie!
Howl on. I just love that you have coyotes about. We all need to howl/sing/bark when we need to. What else is life for?

Haha, I forgot you're a coyote, Fe! :-) We had that same moon here in West Africa too, it was amazing, I even thought of taking the horses out for a midnight run in the bush!!! Didn't get around to do it, but I'm hoping that moon will be back next full moon again.... hoping hoping it will!

Warm greetings from Niger!
Esther

PS: Does coyotes enjoy sun-dried locusts?

Halllooo, Esther!

Glad the moon shone as brightly on your side of the world. I believe it will come close to us again in 2016 (don't hold me to that!).

Sun-dried locusts? Do they taste like chocolate? :-)

Gorgeous moon photos. That particular night the moon was concealed by the clouds in my corner of the world. But the night after, it was pretty big--lit up the whole arroyo.

It was bright for a couple of days. Who says magic does not exist?
